Jill Jensen - Hello! I just read your blog post and it was wonderful. I’m sure it felt good to write it out and it seems you have touched a lot of people! I “know” or knew you from ILP. I am a hobbyist photographer and also part of a military family. We moved to Boise this summer and I was disappointed to learn you had moved!

I see in your blog post that you may come back for sessions in the spring? I would be very interested if so. The only thing that makes me nervous is my husband is difficult to pin down as he commands a squadron here on base but hopefully he could agree to a date and stick to it. Otherwise I guess it’d be mommy and boys photos ;) I have four boys 9, 6, 4, and almost 2. I see your session fee is $200 – could I look at your print pricing list please?

Thank You and best of luck for a successful new year!
Jill

Kay English Photo - Hey there! I saw your post and thought that was AWESOME! I’m going to stop using “we” bc I’ve always hated writing that. Anywho, I would love to give you some tips that helped me start booking, but you seem to photograph families so I’m not sure my wedding marketing strategies would apply. Thanks for your honesty and love your work!

cam - Hey Yan, Read your post and funnily enough we are both in the same boat. We moved our family from Sydney to somewhere near Brisbane ( Australia ) in the country. We bought our dream house, spent all our money and have been struggling ever since. I am an award winning printer and photography but am the same, I can barely make ends meet and am seriously worried all the time about my mortgage. But my kids love it so much and to look at them playing here and chasing butterflies and hugging chickens is wonderful. Everyone is shooting the same here and it all looks the same to me, no individuals at all, its quite depressing. I haven’t had a single job since October and even that was done at cost. So difficult. I am 40 and though maybe by this stage I would be comfortable, but no it’s not meant to be. I have condsidered quitting but what would I do. I too am using film again, but no in weddings yet, I still use my digital for that. Anyway I think your work is great and worth every cent that you should charge, integrity will win you through. I hope I can get some paid work soon, in the meantime I am shooting for someone else and also doing portraits of families and individuals during my spare time.

Hope you make it, stay in touch. You have lots of lovely comments on your site I am sure it is just time…

Lots a love

Cam and the family somewhere near Brisbane Australia…x
